Prior to Thanksgiving each year, transforms his East Village store into a winter wonderland. The artist fills the shop with whimsical ornaments and trees, nearly covering every inch in holiday trinkets. Don't let the Santa sculptures or glass birds fool you, though. This isn't your standard Christmas shop—it's more like a holiday fantasy, as proven with junk food and pickle trees.
And as far as a seasonal color palette goes, there isn't one in John's world. In the store you'll find rainbow garland and chandeliers covered in colorful bird ornaments. The vibe throughout is slightly nostalgic, chic and overall delightful. And, I promise, there's no where else in Manhattan that you'll find a tree filled with fruit ornaments next to deer and moose heads.
Whether you're able to visit the store or are just here taking notes on how to decorate like a total pro for the holidays, John has one suggestion: "Think of the whole room, not just an area," adding to "think of it like icing on a cake."
John's favorite tree this year is the one in his shop decorate in mushroom ornaments, but I'd argue that the puppy ornament tree is a close runner up. See the entire store in the video above.
