Chip and Joanna Gaines Just Bought A Museum to Go With Their Castle

What's next? A hotel? An aquarium?

If you thought Chip and Joanna Gaines buying a literal castle and finally becoming BFFs with Jennifer Lopez was too much news for you to handle, then sit down and put your head between your knees before reading any further. The Fixer Upper duo recently purchased the 151-year-old Fort House museum located in Waco, Texas, bringing the city one step closer to being The Town That Chip and Joanna Rebuilt.

The property in question is located just two blocks from their flagship Magnolia Market in Silos. Magnolia spokesman John Marsicano spoke to the and said the Gaineses intend to “maintain the home in a way that carefully honors and thoughtfully celebrates its heritage.”

“Fort House is a cornerstone of this city, and we intend to keep it that way for years to come,” Marsicano .

Fort House has a historic home marker, so if the Chip and Jo wanted to do anything drastic to the house, they would need approval from the Texas Historical Commission. Although plans for the project are not public now, statements regarding the purchase have reassured Waco residents that the Gaineses won't be doing anything too dramatic.

"We have worked extremely closely with Magnolia, and we have put a ton of deed restrictions on it," said Jill Barrow, Historic Waco Foundation director, to the . "It’s going to look very much like it is now. Magnolia has bought into maintaining the historical integrity of the house.”

It'd be interesting to see if the design duo's recent real estate purchases further boost the prices of homes in Waco. The average price of a home sold in January was $212,455, a full $56,292 higher than the average one year ago, according to the .
