Upon seeing Ashley and Kyle's kitchen for the first time, newcomers probably all had the same reaction: "Wow, that's a whole lotta wood." The place felt like it belonged on a campground (all that was missing was a maybe a nosy black bear) so the owners — the bloggers behind — went on a mission to design a space that didn't make them feel like they were trapped in the forest.
The pair envisioned a breezy farmhouse look, and needed to stick to a strict budget to make it happen. So, believe it or not, most of paneling and cabinetry ended up staying — it just got a fresh coat of white paint. Ashley and Kyle ditched the yellow formica counter and backsplash (charming beadboard hid underneath), and splurged on one piece of marble for the island, which became the room's new focal point. Open shelves display their classic everyday plates and fun copper pieces, and lower cabinets (complete with shiny new hardware) hide everything else.
Though the bloggers have a 10-year plan for a bigger kitchen renovation, this in-between spruce doesn't really seem like they're settling for anything less.
