If you've ever seen a home tour and gotten a little envious of the decor details, this DIY is for you. Kate Reid's gorgeous NYC apartment was so full of colorful features—like bespoke pom-pom trim lampshades, and neon pipe shelving—that we couldn't resist trying to bring some of that inspiration into our own homes.
Before you get scared off, yes designing is hard, but this four-step lampshade hack is definitely not. The most difficult part might actually be choosing a color! Tip: When decorating a neutral shade take stock of your room: Is it warm-toned or cool-toned? Covered in color or toned down? If you're not sure what to pick, this rainbow trim kit cost only $7 on Amazon, for investment design on the dime.
What You'll Need:
- Pom-Pom trim
- Hot glue gun & gluesticks
Step 1: Pick your trim color.
Step 2: Apply glue in 2" sections along the bottom of the shade.
Tip! Glue in small strips to keep application smooth.
Step 3: Secure the trim to the glue.
Step 4: Cut off excess trim.
