Instant Pot

Instant Pots are great for doing everything from cooking a chicken in to to .

But did you know you can also make wine in an Instant Pot?

After David Murphy, a food blogger and recipe developer from New Jersey, picked up a a few months back he came across a meme that joked about turning grapes into wine using a crockpot.

When Murphy couldn't find an existing recipe to do just that, he decided to take matters into his own hands and starting asking an Instant Pot Facebook group for the best way to figure out this conundrum.

"Then, my a-ha moment happened," Murphy . "The Instant Pot has a Yogurt function, and you can use less heat. Before you knew it, I was shopping on Amazon and running to the store to grab juice and to test out my theory... and it worked!"

By taking a 64-ounce bottle of Welch's Grape Juice, a cup of sugar and a packet of (plus a few other tools, which he ), Murphy produced a "palatable" wine that he says tastes like a Merlot with hints of dark cherries and raw chocolate. But don't expect anything too fancy out of this Welch's into wine hack. Murphy says it's similar to "an extremely pleasant table wine" that would cost about $8-12 at a store.

The other catch? There's nothing instant about making wine in an Instant Pot. The entire process is so complicated and time-consuming it takes 48 hours to make the wine and then it needs to be stored in a cool, dark place for at least another week.

But if you're patient enough, check out the full recipe on Murphy's blog .
