There are three types of Christmas celebrants (very generally speaking): those with half trees so their animals don't sabotage the holidays, the average Christmas folk, and Martha Stewart. While the middle category struggles to decide between a real versus an artificial tree or a full versus a flatback one, the first kind of people at least know what they want, then there's Martha Stewart who can't stop, won't stop.
No exaggeration. In a recent episode of The Ellen Show, Martha came on to do a few DIY holiday projects and during their conversation Ellen asked Martha how many Christmas trees she has in her home, Martha casually replied...casually, I repeat: "Oh, last year I had too many, I had about 40."
To which she added, through the audience's laughter at Ellen's shocked reaction (see above), "I put at least 5 trees in every room. We started yesterday putting more trees for this year." It's unclear whether she meant "more" as in "more than last year" or as in "new trees for this year," but I kind of hope she meant the former. After all, if she can pull off more than 40 Christmas trees in her New York home this year it means my holiday dreams aren't that outrageous.
