After Anthony Bourdain died last summer, CNN set out to put together a book of intimate photographs of the chef along with quotes from people whose lives he touched. The finished product was to be a keepsake for his daughter, privately published in a limited edition by the network that aired his series Parts Unknown. But now, the estate has decided to release the photos and messages in a book called Anthony Bourdain Remembered, available today.

“Our relationship with Anthony Bourdain began in 2012 and in that time Tony became a dear friend and colleague who enriched CNN with his brilliant storytelling, distinctive voice and refreshing perspective on culture at home and abroad. His impact and legacy will live on indefinitely at CNN," Amy Entelis, Executive Vice President, Talent and Program Development, CNN Worldwide said in a press release. "As a expression of our gratitude we wanted to create this remembrance for his family and all those whose lives he touched."

The book includes photographs of Bourdain filming his show around the world, and quotes from chefs, journalists, filmmakers, musicians, and writers inspired by Bourdain including Barack Obama, Eric Ripert, Jill Filipovic, Ken Burns, Questlove, and José Andrés.

"It's easy to love Tony," Andrés writes. "You can see it. He's the most caring person I've ever met. That's why I'm happy and proud to call him a friend."

Boudain visits Lafayette, Louisiana. "There are parts of America that are special, unique, unlike anywhere else," Bourdain said on Parts Unknown. "Cultures all their own, kept close, much loved but largely misunderstood. The vast patchwork of saltwater marshes, bayous, and prairie land that make up Cajun country is one of those places."

Boudain visited Tanzania in 2004. After filming the episode , "Maybe it’s the sheer size and complexity of African issues, the at times crushing weight of history—the ugliness of that history and Europe and the West’s unambiguous complicity in so much of it—that keeps us from even trying to look beyond the surface."
