IKEA Recalls 16,700 Pet Water Dispensers After 2 Dogs Die

After the reported deaths of two dogs, is recalling 16,700 water dispensers sold in the United States for a suffocation hazard. The $7.99 product from the Swedish retailer's recently-launched pet line featured a large, clear well that replenished a drinking bowl as needed.

However, the inverted tank can entrap smaller dogs and cats' heads and poses a major safety risk. IKEA is now urging all customers to stop using the dispensers immediately and return them for a full refund.

While no longer available in stores or online, the water dispenser was sold in U.S. stores between October 2017 and June 2018. If you think you may own one, you can double check by looking for the article number 303.775.72 printed on a sticker on the bottom of the bowl, a states. is recalling an additional 17,767 units sold across the border.

According to the company's , the was designed with the assistance of veterinarian Dr. Barbara Schäfer, who works with product risk assessment at IKEA. The line also includes beds, leashes, toys, and other pet products unaffected by the .
