This Rice Field Art Is Way Cooler Than Any Corn Maze Design We've Ever Seen

Yes, that's actually rice you're looking at.

Every year since 1993, the people of Inakadate, Japan have grown elaborate designs in their rice fields to draw tourists to their small village in Aomori prefecture. While American corn mazes and crop circles are made by cutting patterns into existing fields, Japanese rice field art is created by planting different colors of rice so that it slowly grows into a work of art. Pretty amazing, right?
