A few months ago, I decided to try a weighted blanket. I literally have not stopped using it since then. It's amazing and I'm obsessed, so when I heard about the nodpod, a weighted sleep mask, I was instantly intrigued. What's a little extra weight, if it helps me keep my excess baggage from keeping me up at night, right?
Admittedly, deep down, I thought it would be too good to be true. Lightning can't strike twice in the same spot, I thought. But it did. Once again, I am hooked on a weighted product. I have used the mask every night since I first got it, and I don't like sleeping without it now. And the combo of my weighted blanket and mask? Oh. My. God. I literally have never felt so cozy in my entire life. I bury myself under all the extra weight, sink into my pillows, and dream sweet dreams. Then my alarm goes off the next morning and everything sucks again, but that's a story for another time.
If you have a weighted blanket, you need this thing. If you don't have a weighted blanket, you need this thing. But before you invest, here are a few things to know:
It's not that heavy.
When I first put the nodpod on I was kind of disappointed; compared to my weighted blanket, the 10.1-ounce mask felt light. I wanted more weight and pressure, but after sleeping with it on a few nights in a row, I realized that it still got the job done. If you're a little surprised at first about the weight, don't sweat it.
There's no strap.
If you're expecting a standard sleep mask, this isn't it. Instead of a strap that goes around the back of your head, the nodpod has two end tabs that lay flat across the pillow on either side. It's kind of like laying a towel over your eyes. If you're not into that, there is a slit in one of the end tabs, so you can pull the other tab through and secure the mask around your head.
It will fall off in the middle of the night.
That being said, it will fall off when you're sleeping. Even when I was wearing it wrapped about my head, it fell off. It's not a big deal though. According to the folks at nodpod, the main goal of the mask is to help you fall asleep. If it slips off once you are asleep, it won't go far. The weight of the mask keeps it close by, so you can put it right back on if you wake up.
There are two sides.
This mask is reversible. One side, made of jersey cotton, is meant to cool. The other side, which is fleece, is warming. FWIW, I use the cooling side, and I love it.
