As soon as you start walking through 's Chicago shop, you're going to feel like you're at home. Okay, maybe not your home, but more like the high-end home of your dreams. That's because Kneen & Co was designed to be more than just a showroom full of products you can buy—it was created in such a way that you can experience products (like Marie Daage dinnerware, Mark Thomas stemware, Masserano cashmere throws, and more) the way they'd be used in a real house.
"We’ve created separate spaces that each lend themselves to a specific room in the home, featuring product relevant to that room," founder Mary Jeanne Kneen tells Miescisko.
In the living room setup, you'll find one of Kneen & Co's most amazing pieces—the that's fully equipped with everything you could ever need in an at-home bar. Mary Jeanne aptly describes the piece as both a conversation-starter and an Instagram-worthy moment. And if your style leans a bit on the macabre side, you'll also find the most beautiful limited-edition porcelain skulls you've ever seen, . (As Mary Jeanne points out, "Life is too short to not break out the Nymphenburg!")
But perhaps the most stunning thing you'll come across in the Kneen & Co showroom is actually a chandelier—the , to be exact. Inspired by galaxies and complete with Swarovski hand-cut crystals, black center spheres, and sputnik elements, the piece was designed for New York's Metropolitan Opera. "It’s magical when the lights are illuminating all of the glassware on display," Mary Jeanne says.
All of these items are hand-curated by Mary Jeanne herself, making the store's selection unlike any other. "It makes for an exciting, educational and well-rounded shopping experience," Mary Jeanne says. Plus, what you see is not necessarily what you get, thanks to Kneen & Co's customization options, with products like lighting, linens, and dinnerware.
"We love to have our clients to come in, have a coffee and relax, and be immersed in the selection or customization process for the pieces they take home," Mary Jeanne says. "Of course, for the client that wants to be hands-off, we often take care of all selections, but for those who are interested, we offer a collaborative, artistic approach to selecting tableware and home decor."
Another unique feature of the store is the long, marble high-top table in the main area of the showroom. The space, Mary Jeanne explains, allows the team to play with different tablescape ideas. "We can do mock table settings and really work with our clients to curate the perfect setting," she says.
Can't wait to stop in and see Kneen & Co for yourself? Then head on over to Chicago's shopping district and pop in to the One Mag Mile building (980 North Michigan Avenue in Suite 650) for a visit. The showroom is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., or by appointment. If you can't make it there in person, you can also check out the rest of .
