If you are struggling to make the most of the space in your home, you'll be pleased to know there are always ways to create a sense of space even if you don't occupy a large floor area.

Miescisko UK spoke to Grand Designs presenter and design extraordinaire, Kevin McCloud, to discover his advice for homeowners facing the challenge of small space living. This is what he had to say...

'A big house is not necessarily spacious,' Kevin said. 'A small house is not necessarily cramped. What matters is a sense of space and a sense of connection.

'In my business, we build houses with tall ceilings, which means big windows go up. So you can stand deep in the building and still see the sky. And a skylight can give you a connection to infinity – how precious is that?'

On top of that, Kevin also shared some easier ways to accomplish making the most of your floor space.

'You can wash your windows to let more light in, declutter which really helps, or paint a room,' Kevin said. 'Create more floor space. I’ve always enjoyed sofas that are on legs and don’t go all the way down to the floor. They appear to float and it makes the floor somehow seem bigger.

'Fundamentally, it’s all about giving your home a sense of lightness, airiness, space and connection.'
