If you’re sat at home comfortable on the sofa and your TV appears to switch off – don’t panic.
A new advert by Samsung tonight will leave millions fearing that their TV set has broken down.
It will happen in advert breaks this evening (Friday 24 May) between The Simpsons, Coronation Street and First Dates. The 20-second advert will start with a buzz of static, followed by five long seconds of blackness.
The ad campaign has been dreamed up by Samsung who are looking to shift the TV from a plain black box to a piece of modern art.

The technology giants unveiled their new TV range – 2018 QLED TVs – in March. Featuring the ambient mode, which is controlled by a single button on the remote, it allows you to change the blank screen function of the TV to match your wallpaper, therefore disguising itself on your living room wall.
'The large black rectangles which have come to dominate our homes over the past 50 years will soon be a thing of the past as televisions adapt to complement and reflect our modern living environment,' said Robert King, Vice President – Consumer Electronics, Samsung Electronics UK & Ireland.
'Our QLED ambient technology marks the end of an era and we are about to witness a dramatic change in the way we install, watch and enjoy television.'
The advert blackout will even happen during the Champions League final on Saturday night, as at half time, sets will appear to switch off by themselves for a total of eight seconds before the advertising message appears.
Samsung’s spokesman added: 'This unique and disruptive marketing campaign has been designed to underscore this messaging in the most dramatic way possible, switching sets off to remind the public that their TV is simply a boring black screen for 90% of the time.'
