Christmas is coming and with it comes a slew of festive markets taking over central London and beyond. From stalls overlooking famous London tourist attractions or those in the heart of the West End, there's a market here for everyone.

Whether you're in the mood for a food-themed market, a riverside extravaganza or Winter Wonderland itself, there's a whole host of Christmas markets to find in London this year. Here's our pick of the best.

1. Winter Wonderland – 23 November 2018 - 6 January 2019

Hyde Park, London

Open every day from 10am until 10pm, Winter Wonderland is one of London's biggest Christmas markets. As well as the festive stalls selling handcrafted gifts, delicious food, mulled wine and more, this year's Winter Wonderland also features five brand new attractions. These include Peter Pan on Ice and ice sculpting workshops to get stuck into. Entry is free to the park but there is a charge for the attractions.

2. Southbank Christmas Market – 9 November - 27 December 2018

Southbank, London

Open from 11am every day, the Southbank Centre's annual winter market is full of seasonal goodies, festive foods and mulled wine. Pick up a plate of delicious street food from the many vendors offering Asian, Indian and Greek food, or enjoy traditional winter favourites such as bratwurst and raclette. There are plenty of sweet treats on sale too, plus don't miss the nearby regular food market, open Friday to Sunday. Entry to the Christmas market is free.

3. Winterville - 15 November - 23 December 2018

Clapham Common, London

Pop-up festive town Winterville returns to Clapham Common this year, bigger and better than ever. Featuring a Christmas market and ice rink, the food is provided by Street Feast, offering international food and drink to whet your appetite. As well as the fabulous array of food, there's also a backyard cinema with over 40 festive shows and a mix of entertainment including cabaret, family shows and even a child-friendly rave. Plus, don't miss the fairground with its own ghost train. Entry is free except for Friday and Saturday nights. Admission charges apply for the attractions.

4. Christmas by the River - 30 November 2018 - 3 January 2019

London Bridge, London

The backdrop of Tower Bridge provides the perfect setting for this Christmas market with over 60 stalls selling festive gifts, including crafty and handmade presents for your loved ones. Don't miss the traditional food and drink on sale, or the many workshops on at the chalet style event space. Entry is free.

5. Christmas in Leicester Square – from 9 November 2018

Leicester Square, London

In the heart of the West End you'll find this gem of a Christmas market, which transforms the bustling Leicester Square into a winter wonderland. You'll find plenty of market stalls selling everything from handmade gifts to food and drinks, a whole host of shows in a traditional 1920s spiegeltent, plus a Santa's Grotto, where little ones can meet Santa himself. There's lots to enjoy here. Entry to the market is free but there is a charge for Santa's Grotto and the shows.

6. Kingston Christmas Market – 15 November - 31 December 2018

Kingston-upon-Thames

Kingston's traditional Christmas market is back, transforming the town into a winter wonderland. With festive stalls selling treats for all the family, from handcrafted gifts for loved ones to classic German food, there are also two bar areas serving mugs of mulled wine to warm yourself with as you look around the stalls. You won't want to miss out on the street entertainment and candy cane forest, a dedicated children's entertainment area. Entry is free.
