Some 28 years later and Macaulay Culkin has reprised his role as Kevin McCallister in Home Alone for a new Google Assistant Christmas advert – and it’s like an early Christmas present for every Home Alone fan.
As the most famous Christmas movie house – and one of the most popular Christmas movies of all time – Google has created this festive, and rather nostalgic advert, showing just how resourceful a Google Home device can be.
In the ad, a very grown up, modern day Kevin finds that he has the house to himself, but this time with the Google Assistant by his side.
Recreating some iconic scenes, Kevin adds aftershave to his shopping list and sets an ‘Operation Kevin’ custom routine to lock his door, turn on the lights and ensure the Wet Bandits don’t stand a chance.
‘They did a very good job on the set decoration, the props, and all the shots were spot on,’ said Macaulay. ‘I am thinking and hoping that people will really dig it.’
The advert promotes a new Google Assistant feature, available for a limited time only, in which you can enjoy some of the most iconic moments from the film with quotes from your favourite scenes.
All you have to do is simply say, ‘Hey Google…’ to your Google Home device or your Android or iPhone device. The responses you can expect are:
• 'How much do I owe you?' and you’ll be reminded to 'Keep the change, you filthy animal.'
• 'Did I forget something?' and the famous 'KEVINNNNNNNNNN' scream will play back.
• 'It’s me Snakes. I got the stuff,' to recreate a back-and-forth dialogue from the movie Kevin watches, Angels with Filthy Souls.
• 'The Wet Bandits are here' to trigger Kevin defending his house.
• 'I'm the man of the house' to relive the famous scene when Kevin tries aftershave.
