A candlelit dinner on the beach is just so last year. If you want a truly one-in-a-lifetime experience, this restaurant in Southern Italy that's nestled into a limestone cave and sits above a mesmerizingly blue sea is officially our new definition of date night goals. Take a closer look:

The restaurant is located in the town of Polignano a Mare (which is right near the top of the Italian "boot"). It's part of (and sits directly below) the Grotta Palazzese hotel. Even more fascinating is that the vaulted cave dates all the way back to the 1700s, meaning nobility likely roamed the same rooms you can still dine at today.

It sits 74 feet above the Adriatic sea so diners can watch the water from above, while boaters can explore the grotto (and peek up at the pricey restaurant) from below.

The decor is relatively simple, which allows the walls of the cave and mesmerizing water to take center stage. At night, individual light fixtures stretch over each table (for obvious reasons there are no recessed lights here!) and illuminate each space, while also showing off the texture of the cave walls.

This place, that menu, that wine...above a woman can dream of...#grottapalazzese 🎉💎🙌🏼

But a long, leisurely lunch with a glass of white wine sounds like an equally rela experience during one of the warmer summer months.

Since the restaurant has existed since the Neolithic period (and was even once part of a Greek colony) there's no telling just how many royals have experienced this romantic dining experience: Perhaps a princess ate some calamari with a courter? Or a king enjoyed fish while talking strategy with his new queen?

Pro tip: Make your reservation during dusk so you can experience the cave during both daylight and after dark — even if you end up at a table that's tucked further into the restaurant you won't miss the beautiful twilight view.

If ever there were a perfect place to be on a Wednesday night, it would be here, with a glass of red and a hot Italian date 🇮🇹🍷 #ciaoamore #grottapalazzese #hutchlife

If you do decide to visit this restaurant, just make sure you schedule your trip sometime between May and October (the restaurant closes up shop during the winter) — and that you make a reservation!
